The school was established in the early 1800s, and has occupied its current building since the 1830s. In 1887 the school ran a night school so more children could attend school. In 1903 the school had an incredible 107 children attending.
The school has changed a great deal over the years it finally gained indoor toilets in 1990, fortunately many of the original features still remain, the outside toilets are still here but are now used as outside storage for sports and play equipment, class 2 still has its wonderful high ceiling and beautiful beams and the old school wall is still standing outside class 1.
Our Classrooms
We have three classrooms, Cygnets for reception and key stage 1 children, Swans for years 3 and 4 and Kingfishers for years 5 and 6. We are developing our school and will soon have a special room for cooking and group work.
We have 3 computers in Class 1 for the children to use and 16 lap tops for all classes to use. The children enjoy using ICT to present and research their work. We have a great deal of ICT resources to support all the children with their learning.
Learning Outside
Cygnets have their own special play area with bikes, sand and water.
We have an adventure play area with 2 tyre swings and monkey bars.
Our environmental area has recently been developed and is for all the children to enjoy. There are bird boxes, raised beds, greenhouses and our chicken coop.
We often go to the village hall for P.E as there is a large hall with facilities and a fantastic field.
The children visit the park regularly as this is very close to the school, it is a great place for P.E, after school clubs and outdoor play.
The children visit the woods as often as possible, we play games, look for plants and signs of springs, search for mini beasts, role play games, build houses and much more.
We have been lucky enough to have been given an allotment area for the children. This is within walking distance and will give the children a fantastic opportunity to learn when to plant crops, how to plant them, how we pick them, what they taste like and also get a chance to cook with them.
